"I appreciated everything in the Music in Prisons project. I am now writing, spelling and reading better and also I am now more advanced with playing my guitar. I am determined to do positive things for myself and others of this world. Thank you once more for supporting and inspiring me". Project Participant

Taking part in a Music in Prisons project can change the lives of some of societies most disadvantaged and excluded individuals. Through a creative music project men, women and young people can build their self-esteem, develop skills such as team working and communication and find a way to access other forms of education which they need if they are to play a positive role in our communities when they are released from prison.

With spiralling prison numbers, high re-offending rates and limited access to the arts within prisons, The Irene Taylor Trust ‘Music in Prisons’ is committed to continuing to ensure that musical opportunities are made available to prisoners so that they can make a positive change in their lives. Music in Prisons’ projects are innovative and forward-looking. A legacy, however large or small, will have a significant impact on the lives of offenders throughout the UK, giving them the chance to leave prison with more than just the stigma of having been there.
